The Fi-Dels were a soul group formed in Los Angeles, California, in January 1966. Initially a trio consisting of Marvin Beard, Elbert Jones, and Jimmy Locke, the group underwent changes shortly after their formation. By April, Elbert had departed, and new members Alvin Sykes, Walter Pride, and James C. Brown joined the lineup. The members originally came together while serving in the US Marine Corps, and they took their name from the Corps's Latin motto, "Semper Fidelis," which means "Always Faithful."
