The Five Canadians, originally known as The Hangmen, were a band from San Antonio, Texas. They released a single titled "I’m Gonna Love You / Goodnight" on their own Flo-Pin label in February 1966. Under the influence of local promoter ‘Colonel’ Paul Beckingham, the group changed their name and created a narrative suggesting they were from Toronto, believing this would enhance their success and increase radio play.
