The Flair was a US vocal group from Los Angeles, CA, formed in the early 1950s. Notable members included the writer of "Louie Louie" and another member who would later join another group. Originally named "The Debonairs" and "The Flairs" on one release, they were renamed "The Flairs" by a label after the label name. The original lineup from 1953 to 1955 consisted of Beverly Thompson (tenor), Cornell Gunter, Thomas "Pete" Fox (tenor), Obadiah Jessie (baritone), and Richard Berry (bass). This lineup disbanded in 1955. The group was revived as "Cornel Gunter And" in 1955 and then as "Cornel Gunter And" again. The later members from 1955 to 1958 included Cornell Gunter, Kenneth Byley (first tenor), Thomas Miller (baritone), and Felton George Hollis (bass). This second lineup also broke up in 1958, after which the group was finally renamed "The Flairs" in 1959. This new group became known for their 1961 hit "Foot Stompin', Pt. 1."
