The Flower Power was a psychedelic band from Gulfport, MS, active from 1967 to 1970. Formed in October 1967, the original lineup included Robert Weathersby on guitar and lead vocals, David Mcintosh on organ, Joe Rolison on bass, and members from The Telstars and Sandi and the Gang Band. The band, consisting of members aged 15 to 17, played local gigs along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. They soon met managers in New Orleans and signed a contract in early 1968. Their first single was recorded, and shortly after, David Mcintosh left the band, replaced by Johnny Rand from The Soul Survivors. Robert Weathersby also departed, with Randall Currie stepping in, also from The Soul Survivors. With this lineup, they opened for B.J. Thomas and performed alongside Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, among others. One of their recordings during this time was 'Mt Olympus.' In August 1968, Randall Currie left the group, and his replacement was a member from another band with a regional hit. Johnny Rand exited, and Dickie Burnet joined on drums in early 1969. After a few lineup changes, the band decided to remain a five-piece. In July 1969, they traveled to Houston, Texas, to open for The Nazz, Todd Rundgren's band. On August 31st, they were the opening act at the first New Orleans
