The For Carnation is a post-rock band led by Brian McMahan, who is the group's only constant member. The band's origins trace back to McMahan's reunion with his former bandmates David Pajo and Britt Walford, although their attempt to revive their old group was unsuccessful. Subsequently, McMahan and Pajo recruited additional musicians, leading to the formation of The For Carnation. The band released an EP titled "Fight Songs" in 1995 and an LP called "Marshamallows" in 1996, both under an undisclosed record label. These two records were later combined into a single release titled "Promised Works" in 1997 by an Italian imprint. The For Carnation then signed with another label for their second LP, a self-titled album released in 2000. In 2007, Touch and Go reissued "Promised Works."
