The Four Knights were an American vocal group hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, formed in 1943. The original lineup consisted of Gene Alford (lead tenor), Oscar Broadway (bass), Clarence Dixon (baritone), and John Wallace (tenor, guitar), which remained stable for much of their career. Initially performing as the Southland Jubilee Singers, they showcased a blend of gospel music, vocal pop, and doo-wop. Their first professional engagement occurred in 1944 at WSDC, an NBC affiliate in Charlotte. They soon gained prominence as featured performers on the Carolina Hayride program, aired on CBS affiliate WBT. In the mid-1940s, they recorded transcription discs for Langworth Records and officially adopted the name The Four Knights in 1945.
