The Four Tops are a U.S. male vocal soul quartet formed in 1953 in Detroit, originally known as The Four Aims. They made their recording debut in 1955 by backing another artist on her single. The founding members—Lawrence Payton, Levi Stubbs, Renaldo "Obie" Benson, and Abdul "Duke" Fakir—remained together for over four decades without any personnel changes until 1997. In the 1960s, they were the primary male vocal group for a prominent songwriting and production team. After a member left in 1967, the Four Tops worked with several producers, primarily in the industry. When the group left Detroit for Los Angeles in 1972, they chose to remain in Detroit and transitioned to another label, continuing to chart singles into the late 1970s. Since the 1980s, the Four Tops have recorded for various labels. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 as performers. Sometimes, they are credited as "The Four Tops." The current line-up includes Theo Peoples (1998-present), Ronnie McNeir (2000-present), and Roquel Payton (2005-present), alongside the original members who contributed until their passing: Lawrence Payton (1953-1997), Levi Stubbs (1953-2000), Renaldo "Obie" Benson (1953-2005), and Abdul "Duke" Fakir
