The Ghetto Brothers were a gang and music group founded in the late 1960s in New York City's South Bronx. Established by Hui Cambrelen, along with Ray delaVega and Benji Melendez, the group expanded its influence throughout much of the Northeastern United States. They were politically motivated, focusing on uplifting young Latino and Black men in the community and were associated with Puerto Rican nationalism and the Puerto Rican Socialist Party. Benjamin Melendez, a key figure in the organization, was also a guitarist and led a band known as the Ghetto Brothers, which included his late brother Victor Melendez on bass. The band released an album in 1971, which had limited local distribution. Melendez left the organization in 1976.
