The Golden Cups were a Japanese Group Sounds rock band formed in Yokohama in December 1966. They were known for covering a wide range of UK and US rock, blues, and soul songs. The band released ten singles and several albums before disbanding in 1971. Marketed by their agency as a 'half'-Japanese group to align with the popularity of Western rock music, the members adopted stage names such as 'Dave', 'Eddy', 'Mickie', 'Louis', and 'John'. While Louis Kabe was claimed to be half-French and Eddy Ban half-British, only Eddy Ban was ethnically non-Japanese, having been born to Chinese parents in Yokohama's Chinatown. Kenneth Ito, born in Hawaii, was Japanese-American with both parents of Japanese descent.
