The Grief is a band that originated in Saint-Malo, France, in the 1980s. Formed in 1984 from the remnants of Döppler-Fizeau, the band consisted of JLM on machines and bass, JPG providing backing vocals and homemade Super8 visuals, and JYD on vocals. They established their own label as a tribute to a 1897 poem by a French writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1947. Jean-Louis, now a producer, adopted his alias. In 1986, they secured distribution, which allowed them to tour across Europe, and by 1991, they performed at notable events. However, the band ultimately split in 1992.
