The Grief is a band that originated in Saint-Malo, France, in the 1980s. Formed in 1984 from the remnants of Döppler-Fizeau, the lineup consisted of JLM on machines and bass, JPG for backing vocals and homemade Super8 visuals, and JYD on vocals. To release their records, they established a label as a tribute to the 1897 poem of a French writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1947. Jean-Louis, now a producer, adopted the alias for his work. In 1986, they secured distribution, which allowed them to tour across Europe, and by 1991, they performed at notable venues. The band ultimately disbanded in 1992.
