The Hamlins were formed in the early 1960s by Alton ‘Canute’ Brown, born on November 26, 1947, in Jones Town, Kingston, Jamaica, and Egbert 'Alphonso' Stewart, born on January 31, 1945, in Clarendon, Jamaica. They later recruited Osmond Brown, although the trio never recorded together despite interest from Duke Reid. After Osmond Brown's departure to the UK in 1965, the duo released a few singles produced by Coxsone Dodd. In 2001, a CD album featuring re-recordings was released on Studio One.
