The Hics are an English electronic band formed in London in 2012. The members met at Pimlico School, now Pimlico Academy, while studying music. Initially, the band started as a two-piece electronic indie group with members Evans and Welsh, later expanding to include Matt Knox on bass. Seeking to enhance their sound, they invited former schoolmates Roxane Dayette as vocalist and Geordan Reid-Campbell as guitarist. They later met saxophonist David Turay through the jazz scene. The band's name, The Hics, is derived from hickory, the wood used to make drumsticks. Their debut single, "Lines," was released on September 30, 2012, via their SoundCloud page and gained attention when BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Gilles Peterson played it on his show on October 6, 2012, eventually including it on his compilation Brownswood Bubblers Nine, released on December 10, 2012. In January 2013, The Hics were runners-up for the Best Breakthrough Act at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards. Their second single, "Cold Air," premiered on February 16, 2013, on Peterson's show and was released on February 19, 2013. The band was mentioned in NME in March 2013 and released the track "Tangle" on July 8, 2013, as a teaser for their upcoming EP of the same name. They played their first headline
