The High Llamas is a London-based group formed in 1992, primarily driven by the creative vision of Sean O'Hagan. After leaving Microdisney in 1988, O'Hagan released a solo album titled High Llamas, inspired by a magazine picture of a Victorian hot-air balloon. In 1992, he established the High Llamas and recorded the Apricots mini-LP, which was later expanded and released as their debut full-length album, Santa Barbara, by the JBM label. Their subsequent album, Gideon Gaye, received critical acclaim upon its release in 1994. Since then, the High Llamas have consistently produced "avant pop" records.
