**Bio: The High Numbers** For a brief period in 1964, from approximately July to October, The Who changed their name to The High Numbers. This name change was influenced by Pete Meaden, a mod who managed the band during that time, along with Helmut Gorden. Meaden encouraged the band to align their music and image with the mod movement, leading to the selection of the name "The High Numbers," which was derived from mod slang. The High Numbers released one single before reverting to their original name, The Who, by November 1964. During this time, they also changed management, replacing Meaden with Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp. This shift allowed them to distance themselves from any negative associations linked to The High Numbers' unsuccessful single and to present their first 1965 release, "I Can't Explain," as the debut of a new band, The Who.
