The Highlighters were a soul group from Indianapolis, Indiana, active during the 1960s and 1970s. Initially formed as a jazz group, they practiced at the inspirational Crispus Attucks High School and aimed to make their mark on the Indianapolis live music scene. The band's name was inspired by a term used by saxophonist Clifford Palmer's older brothers for partying. The transition to rhythm and blues significantly changed their sound and fortunes, particularly with the dynamic vocal performances of their frontman and the addition of Dewayne Garvin on drums, who replaced the notable James “Porkchop” Edwards.
