The Hilltoppers were an American popular music singing group formed in the early 1950s by Jimmy Sacca (lead), Donald McGuire (bass), and Seymour Spiegelman (tenor), who were students at Western State College (now Western Kentucky University) in Bowling Green, KY. They were later joined by pianist and songwriter Billy Vaughn. The group's name was inspired by the university's athletic teams' nickname, reflecting the school's location on a hill. Their biggest hit, "Only You (And You Alone)," reached #8 in the U.S. and #3 in the U.K. in 1955. The original trio recorded "Trying," written by Vaughn, in 1952, which became a Top 10 hit (#7) after being distributed by Randy Wood at Dot Records. They continued to achieve success with additional hits, including "P.S. I Love You," which peaked at #4 in the U.S. and sold over one million copies, earning a gold disc. Overall, the group had twenty-one charted songs in the U.S. and three in the U.K. between 1952 and 1957, with "Marianne" reaching #3 in the U.S. and #20 in the U.K. in 1957. The Hilltoppers toured until 1960 before disbanding. Sacca was born on July 26, 1929, in Lockport, New York, and passed away on March
