The Hollywood Flames were formed in 1948, originally known simply as the Flames. Throughout their career, they adopted various names, including the Four Flames, Hollywood Four Flames, the Jets, the Ebbtides, and the Satellites. The group recorded for several labels, such as Hollywood, Specialty, Lucky, Swingtime, and Money. Notable members in 1951 included Clyde Tillis, David Ford, Bobby Day (Robert Byrd), Curlee/Curley Dinkins, and Willie Ray Rockwell. By the late 1950s, the lineup featured Earl Nelson, Ray Brewster, Eddie Williams, David Ford, and Curtis Williams.
