The Ikettes were originally a trio of female vocalists formed to back up a prominent act. Initially known as the Artettes, they changed their name and began recording in 1960 with "A Fool In Love." In 1965, the most well-known trio consisting of Venetta Fields, Jessie Smith, and Robbie Montgomery left the revue to record under their own name, The Ikettes. They were quickly replaced by P.P. (Pat) Arnold, Brenda, and Patrice Holloway. The line-up of The Ikettes was flexible, with many talented singers passing through their ranks. At one point, there were two line-ups, with Fields, Smith, and Montgomery touring with Ike and Tina while another trio performed promotional appearances for their single releases.
