The Impossible Dreamers were a new-wave band from the 1980s, known for their major club hit with the B-side of their debut 12” single, “Spin.” They signed with RCA Records and were produced by Johnny Marr of The Smiths. The band originated at Exeter University around 1980 and initially consisted of six members, featuring a unique arrangement with twin female vocals and melodion. Their energetic stage show often included members swapping instruments during performances. The lineup changed in 1984 when bassist Mark Williams and singer Kate Chaplin departed as the band signed to a major label. By the time they released their first RCA single, "This House Built On Sand," the members included Nick Waterhouse (guitar, vocals), Caroline Radcliffe (vocals, oboe), Justin Adams (guitar), and Fred Hood (drums). They toured extensively, supporting acts such as Kid Creole & The Coconuts and Bad Manners, and received attention from publications like the NME in January 1983. The quartet remained active until 1987/8, after which they disbanded. In 2008, Radcliffe and Waterhouse reunited to release new music under the name “three corners,” with their first CD "stone age genes in the digital era" coming out on their own label. They followed up with a second CD titled "Express" in November 2010, rebranding as "3corners."
