The Intentions were a Chicago-based music group formed in 1971, not to be confused with the Los Angeles group of the same name. The band was created when Art Dubois, a People's Gas employee and part-time music promoter, merged the Pharaohs—whose horn section and style would later contribute to Earth, Wind and Fire—with a group of teenagers from Kenwood. They recorded a single at Les Tucker’s Goldcoast studio. However, as the 45 was being pressed, the Intentions and Dubois parted ways due to disagreements over the wearing of stage uniforms. This led Dubois to halt all promotional efforts for the single. Following this, he returned to his job at People's Gas and never re-entered the music business.
