The Ironsides is a collective of musicians based in the Bay Area, known for their unique blend of classic psych-soul sounds and sweeping orchestral arrangements that evoke the feel of a cinematic soundtrack from a 60s European film. Drawing inspiration from the soundtracks and library music of European composers from the 60s and 70s, the group aims to create lush songs that evoke a diverse range of feelings, emotions, and memories. The band is primarily composed of the Ramey brothers and Jamie Payne, who share a heritage tracing back to Liguria, Italy, honoring their Italian roots and the composers that influenced their cinematic and instrumental sound. The Ironsides initially gained recognition in the cinematic-soul scene with their first release, "The Raven" (2013), originally composed by Piero Piccioni, which set the stage for their elaborate sound. For their first full album released in 2023, the band collaborated with a group of Bay Area musicians to perform arrangements by New York-based maestro Lou King. These musicians bring a diverse range of experience, performing jazz and classical music in various clubs and orchestras. The songs on the album are inspired by landscapes, allowing each piece to resonate differently with listeners and evoke unique meanings.
