The Itals is a renowned reggae vocal group formed in 1976, originally comprised of boyhood friends from the Negril region of Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica. The group began as "Johnny Smith & The Future Generation" in 1975, releasing their first record, "Run Baldhead Run." After the success of Keith Porter's single "Ina Dis Ya Time," the group adopted the name "The Itals." Their producer, Lloyd Campbell, believed a group could achieve greater success than a solo artist, leading to the formation of The Itals, with Keith as the main composer and lead vocalist. Over the years, the lineup changed as Lloyd Ricketts left due to legal issues and was replaced by another member in 1987. David passed away in 1994 and was succeeded by Keith's daughter, Kada. Ronnie Davis departed in 1997 to pursue a solo career but later returned to the Tennors. Keith continues to tour with two of his children, Darien Porter and Kada Porter, providing harmonies. He has released several solo albums, including "Mi Livity" in 2003, "Get it On" in 2019, and "Ital Music" in 2020, along with an Itals reunion album titled "Let Dem Talk" in 2009. Keith is the only surviving member of the original Itals.
