The Jamaicans were a Jamaican Rocksteady vocal group formed in 1964, initially known as "The Mericoles" with five members. They first took the name "The Jamaicans" at a concert in Kingston's Havana Club. Their recording career began in 1965 with a label, and they gained recognition by winning a contest in 1963 with "Until the Dance Through" and another in 1966 with "Ma and Pa." In 1967, they achieved fame by winning the Jamaican Festival Song Contest with "Ba Ba Boom," performed with Tommy McCook & The Supersonics. The group disbanded in 1972 and is mostly known for their hit songs "Ba Ba Boom" and "Things You Say You Love," produced by a label.
