The Kingstonians were a Jamaican vocal trio formed around 1966 by a member known as (aka), his brother Lloyd "Footy" Bernard, and a mutual friend. They began their recording career with a producer, but their greatest success came between 1968 and 1970 with another producer, who guided their singles "Singer Man" and "Sufferer" to the top of the Jamaican charts. An LP featuring the material from this period was released in 1970 under the title, marking the career high point for the Kingstonians. After this success, they left the producer to work briefly with other producers before breaking up as the roots reggae era began. In 1973, a British pop/rock group covered their song "Singer Man."
