The Kool Gents was a Doo Wop group formed in 1951 at Marshall High School in Chicago, Illinois. The original members included a lead vocalist, James Harper (first tenor - baritone), Howard McClain (second tenor), another second tenor - baritone, and a bass singer. By 1953, the lineup changed as Blake, Harper, and McClain left, replaced by a lead tenor, another lead tenor, and a second tenor. When it was decided that Dee Clark would make a fine soloist, John McCall became the new lead voice of The Kool Gents, joined by Danny "Blinky" Edwards (first tenor) and Eugene Huff (tenor - baritone). The group remained together until 1965 without any recordings before breaking up. Later, John McCall, Doug Brown, Teddy Long, and Johnny Carter joined forces with the ex-lead singer of another group to form a new edition.
