The La De Das, originally formed in the early sixties in Te Atatu, West Auckland, New Zealand as The Mergers, gained recognition for their raucous RnB performances. They were signed to a label but licensed to another for their New Zealand release. Their debut album is considered a garage rock classic and is quite rare. In the late sixties, the band relocated to Australia, where they became one of the country's leading live acts until their split in 1975, with only Kevin Borich remaining from the original lineup.
