The Larks were a US R&B group from Los Angeles, originally formed in 1963 as a trio consisting of Don Julian, Ted Walters, and Charles Morrison. In a unique twist, Don Julian switched names with the band, leading to the group's new identity as the Larks. Their first record under this name, released on the Electra label in March 1963, featured two instrumentals: "Mashin' Time" and "Margo." In the summer of 1964, the Larks connected with a label run by Ruth Dolphin, the widow of John Dolphin, who had previously operated Money records in the 1950s. In September 1964, they released "The Jerk"/"Forget Me," which quickly climbed the charts, peaking at #9 on the R&B charts and #7 on the Pop charts.
