The Last Man in Europe Corp. was formed from the remnants of the Leeds punk band Air Raid and the art school upstarts Jug Jug. The core members, Trevor Abbot and Paul Martland, met at Wimbledon School of Art. Their album, "Songs From The Ark," was recorded at Ark Studios in Kingston Upon Thames and produced by David Motion. The band was subsequently courted by EMI and recorded an album's worth of material, including the notable track "Sons Of The Soil," which has never been released. Paul Martland's expertise with an ancient EMS Synthi A led him to engage in session work with various artists, including Win (known for "You've Got The Power"), Strawberry Switchblade ("10 James Orr Street"), Simon F of Intaferon, and Chiefs Of Relief, as well as contributing special sounds for the avant-garde theatre group Lumiere and Son.
