The Last Man In Europe Corporation emerged from the remnants of the Leeds punk band Air Raid and the art school group Jug Jug. The core members, Trevor Abbot and Paul Martland, met at Wimbledon School of Art. Their album, Songs From The Ark, was recorded at Ark studios in Kingston Upon Thames and produced by David Motion. After attracting interest from EMI, the band recorded an album's worth of material, including the notable track "Sons Of The Soil," which has never been released. Paul Martland's expertise with the ancient EMS synthi A led him to work as a session musician with various artists, including Win, Strawberry Switchblade, Simon F of Intaferon, and Chiefs Of Relief, as well as providing special sounds for the avant-garde theatre group Lumiere and Son.
