The Leaf Library originated in Reading after the breakup of a previous band favored by John Peel in 2004. The project's founder began collaborating with a vocalist and, after relocating to London, they were joined by a bassist and a guitarist, who was also the founder's housemate at the time. Following a series of temporary drummers, a permanent drummer joined, bringing an eclectic array of synths and gadgets to the group. In 2008, they released their debut single "Losing Places" through a Dutch label, which featured a remix by another artist. This was followed by a second single on a French label in 2010. Their 2011 release, "Different Activities, Similar Diversions," was a compilation of various tracks and home recording experiments. After a brief hiatus, 2014 saw the release of "The Greater Good" as part of a singles club, which received significant airplay on BBC 6music. This was succeeded by a split 7" with another artist for WIAIWYA in 2015. The renewed interest from these singles led to the release of their debut album, "Daylight Versions," in 2015, which was quickly followed by a drone version ("Nightlight Versions") and a remix version ("Versions") in 2016.
