The Lively Ones were a surf band hailing from Southern California, known for their energetic recordings featuring storming, reverb-drenched Fender guitars and occasional raunchy sax breaks. Over a span of about 12 months, they produced approximately five albums, which included many covers and reworked versions of rock and R&B songs. In 1963, they achieved local hits in the L.A. area with tracks like "Surf Rider" and "Rik-A-Tik." Their standout moment came with "Goofy Foot," a track celebrated for its dynamic riffs and featured on several modern best-of-surf anthologies. The band also creatively adapted a variety of source material, giving surf-inspired renditions to songs such as "Telstar," "Exodus," "Rawhide," and Cole Porter's "Night and Day."
