The Lounge Lizards were an eclectic musical group founded in 1978 by saxophonist John Lurie and his brother, pianist Evan Lurie. Known for their ironic and tongue-in-cheek approach to jazz, they eventually showcased John Lurie's sophisticated compositions that blended jazz with various other genres. The group remained active until around 1998, with the Lurie brothers as the only constant members, although many prominent musicians from New York City were part of the ensemble. Their name is derived from American slang, referring to a well-dressed man who frequents upscale venues with the aim of charming wealthy women through flattery and deception.
