The Louvin Brothers were an American country vocal and harmony duet consisting of brothers Ira and Charlie Loudermilk. They began their professional career after winning a talent contest with their rendition of "There's A Hole In The Bottom Of The Sea." After brief stints with Apollo, Decca, and MGM, they signed with Capitol Records. Initially, their recordings were strictly gospel, but they transitioned to country music with the 1955 release of "When I Stop Dreaming." Their career continued until 1963 when they disbanded due to Ira's volatile temper. Charlie embarked on a successful solo career in 1964, while Ira tragically lost his life in a car accident in Jefferson City, Missouri, on June 20, 1965. Posthumously, songs he recorded for a solo album were released. The Louvin Brothers were inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in 1991 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
