The Maddox Brothers and Rose were known as America’s Most Colorful Hillbilly Band from the 1930s to the 1950s. The group consisted of four brothers—Fred, Cal, Cliff, and Don Maddox—along with their sister, Rose. Cliff Maddox, born on May 19, 1912, in Boaz, Alabama, passed away on August 8, 1949, in Modesto, California. After his death, brother Henry Maddox, born on March 19, 1928, in Boaz, Alabama, joined the group. The band disbanded in 1956. Cal Maddox was born on November 3, 1915, and died on July 2, 1968, in Jackson County, Oregon. Fred Maddox was born on July 3, 1919, and died on October 29, 1992, in Kern, California. Rose Maddox was born on August 15, 1925, and died on April 15, 1998, in Ashland, Oregon. Don Maddox was born on December 7, 1922, and passed away in September 2021. Bud Duncan, born on March 18, 1928, in Pollard, Arkansas, was also associated with the band.
