**Bio: The Magic Tones** The Magic Tones were a soul group formed in the 1960s-1970s in Detroit, Michigan. Originally founded by Calvin "Dhaakk" Stephenson and four friends from Inkster, the group initially included members James Shackleford (bass singer), Richard Allen (tenor), Arthur Cartwright (tenor), and Albert Singleterry (baritone). After some lineup changes, Charles Wilson replaced Shackleford as the bass singer. The name "The Magic Tones" was chosen to reflect their tight harmonies. As the members approached high school graduation, many left the group, prompting Richard Thompson to encourage Calvin to start anew. This led to the formation of a new lineup, which included Clarence Finch, Willie Allison, Bull Allison, Richard Thompson, and Calvin "Doc" Stephenson. Virginia McDonald later joined as the female vocalist, replacing Paul Willis, who passed away due to a brain tumor. Virginia McDonald would go on to work with producer Norman Whitfield and perform with the Undisputed Truth. One of the group's early records was titled "Don't Do Nothin I Wouldn't Do," attributed to Debra Healy & Magictones, released on the Chrysley label. Debra Healy was a schoolmate of the group members, and they all sang together in the Inkster High School Glee Club.
