The Marathons were a US rhythm & blues group known for their first single "Peanut Butter," which was originally intended for another group. Producers and songwriters HB Barnum and Martin Cooper created "Peanut Butter," utilizing the same melody as the Olympics' "Hully Gully." Due to the Olympics being unavailable while on tour, Barnum gave the song to another group to record a demo. This demo eventually reached the Arvee label, leading to its release under the name the Marathons, chosen to avoid using the Vibrations name. When the Vibrations discovered their new vocal group was on Arvee as the Marathons, they released their own version on Argo, subtly identifying the group as the Vibrations. Arvee Records later secured the rights to the "Marathons" name and released additional singles featuring a different group.
