The Martells are an English band based in Ipswich, England, formed in 1965 by Jack Jacobs (lead guitar), Roy Williams (drums), and Spike Hayward (bass). They initially met up with siblings Rod and Carolyn, leading to the name Rod & Carolyn and The Tremors. Shortly after, they secured a contract with Decca Records, who suggested a name change to The Martells. The band released a double A-side single, "Time To Say Goodnight" b/w "The Cherry Song." Just before the single's release, Spike left the band, and Rod took over on bass. During this period, a keyboard player filled in for Carolyn on a few occasions. The band also recorded two unreleased songs, "You Gotta Tell Me" and "So In Love," which survived as an acetate. In 1970, Roy left the band and was replaced on drums by Jonny Peggs. Sandy Sutherland later replaced Peggs in 1972.
