The Marvelettes were an American girl group formed in the fall of 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. They are best known for their hit single "Please Mr. Postman," released in 1961, which set a precedent for later Motown girl groups and contributed to Motown's success. The group disbanded in 1970. The original lineup included Wanda Young Rogers, Katherine Anderson, Georgia Dobbins, Wyanetta Cowart, Georgeanna Tillman, Gladys Horton, and Anne Bogan. Wanda Young Rogers and Katherine Anderson remained with the group from 1961 until its disbandment. Georgia Dobbins was part of the group in 1961, while Wyanetta Cowart was active from 1961 to 1963, and Georgeanna Tillman from 1961 to 1965. Gladys Horton was a member until 1967, and Anne Bogan joined from 1967 to 1970. Notably, in 1962, Florence Ballard of The Supremes temporarily toured with The Marvelettes to fill in for Wanda Young during her pregnancy.
