The Maytals are a Jamaican ska and reggae vocal trio formed in 1961. The group initially recorded under a different name and made their first recordings in 1962 for Coxsone Dodd. They later changed their name, and some sources suggest this change was inspired by a producer's idea following his death, although the name had been used on some releases in the 1960s.
