The Mekons are a British rock band formed in 1977 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Initially known for their rock sound, they transitioned to a folk/folk rock style in the mid-1980s. The band's name is inspired by the Mekon, a villainous character from the British comic strip Dan Dare.
