The Messthetics are an instrumental trio based in Washington D.C., consisting of Brendan Canty on drums, Joe Lally on bass, and Anthony Pirog on guitar. In 2024, they collaborated with a saxophonist to release a self-titled album. Prior to forming The Messthetics, Canty and Lally were the rhythm section of a previous band. In 2016, they teamed up with Pirog to re-imagine the power trio format, bringing it into the 21st century, a form that may have reached near perfection on the very first day of the 1970s.
