The Miracles, originally formed as The Five Chimes in 1955, are one of the earliest Motown groups, established in Detroit. They changed their name to The Matadors in 1956, adding Claudette Rogers to their lineup. The group caught the attention of Berry Gordy during an audition in late 1957, leading to their name change to The Miracles in February 1958. Their debut release, "Got A Job" b/w "My Mama Done Told Me," was issued on the End label that same month. After a few singles on End, Chess, and Motown, they found their true success on Tamla, where Smokey Robinson emerged as a key songwriter throughout the 1960s. In late 1965, the group was rebranded as Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, although they remained one entity until Smokey's departure in July 1972. Following his exit, Billy Griffin joined, and the group's name reverted back to The Miracles. They continued to release music with Motown until 1976, achieving a number one hit in the US with "Love Machine" in 1975, before moving to Columbia. The members of The Miracles included William "Smokey" Robinson (1955–1972), Ronald "Ronnie" White (1955–1983; 1993–1995), Warren "Pete" Moore (1955–1978), Clarence Dawson (1955
