The Monochrome Set is a band that formed in London, UK, in 1978 and became influential in the post-punk scene that emerged after the initial wave of punk. They initially released music on a specific label before signing with a Virgin offshoot for their debut album. The band also released several albums on another label and appeared on that label's compilation. Although The Monochrome Set split in 1985, they reunited several times over the next decade for live performances and further studio recordings, amassing an impressive discography. After a hiatus of over ten years, the band reformed full-time in 2010 and has since toured extensively across the UK, Europe, Japan, and the USA, while also releasing new studio albums. Currently, they are signed to a German label. In 2018, the band celebrated their 40th anniversary with worldwide gigs and the release of a box set compilation of their work up until 1985. More recently, in 2020, a compilation box set of their output from 1990 to 1995 was released.
