The Open Mind was a British rock band formed in London in the late 1960s, originally known as The Apaches. They changed their name to The Drag Set before finally settling on The Open Mind in late 1967, reflecting the non-judgmental spirit of the psychedelic era. The band performed at iconic venues such as the Middle East, the UFO Club, the Electric Garden—where they supported Pink Floyd on its opening night—and The Marquee, where they opened for The Electric Prunes. At times, they were fronted by a pre-Yes Jon Anderson. Promised a deal with Philips by boxing impresario Benny Huntman, the band recorded an album in the spring of 1969 with producer Johnny Franz, known for his work with the Walker Brothers and Dusty Springfield. Their most notable achievement was the drug-influenced single "Magic Potion," released in August 1969 and produced by former Four Pennies member Fritz Fryer. The Open Mind disbanded in 1973 as members sought to explore jazz-influenced music, which conflicted with their established psychedelic image. The remaining members, except for Phil Fox, went on to form a new band called Armada, which lasted about three years without releasing any recorded material. The band consisted of Mike Brancaccio (guitar, vocals), Timothy du Feu (bass), Phil Fox (drums), and Terry Schindler, also known as Terry Martin (guitar, vocals).
