The Orb is a long-running UK electronic group that was originally formed in 1988 by Alex and another member. The group emerged from a passion for ambient music, dub, soundscapes, and science fiction, and they became pioneers of the "ambient house" genre that blossomed in the early 90s. Over the years, The Orb's lineup has changed, with Alex being the only consistent member. Notable members have included others, and while he was never an official member, Youth (a.k.a. ) played a significant role in the group's history and co-owned a label with Alex. The two had known each other since childhood, and Alex was a roadie for the group where Youth played bass.
