The Parachute Club was a Canadian band formed in Toronto in 1982, comprised of members Lorraine Segato (vocals, guitar), Lauri Conger (keyboards, vocals), Billy Bryans (drums), Margo Davidson (saxophone, vocals), Julie Masi (percussion, vocals), Steve Webster (bass), and Dave Gray (guitar). Their debut album, produced by Daniel Lanois, included the hit "Rise Up," which won a Canadian Juno Award for Single of the Year. After Steve Webster left to join Billy Idol, Keir Brownstone replaced him for their second album, At the Feet of the Moon, released in 1985 and produced by Michael Beinhorn. This album earned them a Juno Award for Group of the Year. In 1986, they released their third album, Small Victories, featuring the duet "Love is Fire" with John Oates, who also produced several tracks on the album. The band contributed four songs to the Canadian and U.S. versions of the anime series The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1987. Following a final non-album single, "Big Big World," the band members went their separate ways in 1989. In 2005, critic Greg Quill noted the band's significant impact on Toronto's music scene in the 1980s, highlighting their dance music that addressed social changes and personal politics.
