The Paragons were a Jamaican vocal group primarily known for their rocksteady tracks. They originally consisted of members who went by the name The Binders, including Leroy Stamp. In 1964, Stamp was replaced by John Holt, and another member replaced Menz, leading to the group's name change to The Paragons. After one member left in late 1965, The Paragons continued as a trio. Following John Holt's departure to pursue a solo career, the group recorded with another artist, and then another member took Holt's place. This new trio recorded three albums. The classic line-up of Holt, Barrett, and Evans reformed in the early 1980s after the success of Blondie's cover of their song "The Tide Is High," but Holt left again after the release of recordings with another artist.
