**Bio of The Particles** The Particles emerged in the mid to late 1970s during the early stages of the punk music movement that swept across Britain and the Eastern USA. This phenomenon quickly reached Australia, leading to the formation of bands in cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. One of the rawest examples of this scene was found in a dilapidated block of flats on Berry Street, North Sydney, which became the center of punk music in Sydney. Among the bands rehearsing there were The Cleaners, The Last Words, and The Saints. The Particles were initially formed by Peter Williams and Mick Smith in one of the flats, but the building was eventually condemned and demolished, making way for a shopping mall. In 1977, Peter and Mick relocated to Darlinghurst, closer to venues that would host their performances. They were joined by Michael Wood and Steven Williams, playing at venues such as Frenches, Blondies, The Fun House, Rags, Civic Hotel, and The Grand Hotel, sharing the stage with bands like Kaos, Rejex, and The Thought Criminals. However, the band faced a split later that year when Michael Wood departed, leading to Astrid Spielman taking over as the front person. Over their 7 to 8 years of activity, The Particles underwent numerous lineup changes, with around 20 musicians claiming 'particle-status.'
