The Penguins were an American doo-wop group active in the 1950s and early 1960s, hailing from Los Angeles, California. They are best remembered for their iconic hit "Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine)", which became one of the first rhythm and blues songs to successfully cross over to the pop charts. The original members of the group included a bass-baritone born on December 11, 1934, who passed away on August 10, 1979; a tenor born on July 23, 1935, who died on November 7, 2012; a tenor born on March 10, 1935, who passed away in May 2019; and a baritone born on January 27, 1937, who died on June 20, 1973.
